How to Live the Christian Life in Today's World

Living the Christian life in today's convoluted world can appear to be quite difficult. There are so many

things demanding our attention on a moment by moment basis. Many of which are not bad things, just things that

keep us from growing in our faith because they steal so much of our time. The main key for living the Christian

life is learning and applying the Word of God to and in our lives. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is given by

inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that

the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Notice that I said in the previous paragraph that we are to “learn and apply”. It is not enough to just

learn the Scripture. We must also, with the help of the Holy Spirit, apply it to our lives. Basically we use the Word

of God to give us clear direction on how to live. We do not live on feelings we live by faith. We do not allow our

lives to be dominated by feelings that change depending on our mood for the day. What I feel at any moment

can be as fleeting as the wind. I can flip flop how I feel with a simple phone call from a friend. For example lets

say I look out the window and tell myself, “What a beautiful day I feel like going on a motorcycle ride.” As I am getting

my leathers on the phone rings. I pick up and it is Jerry saying he is going fishing and wants to know if I feel like

going with him. I let him know that I do feel like going fishing. Do I still feel like going on a ride or does a stronger

feeling to fish take over. Odiously I am dominated by the stronger feeling to go fishing. I know it is a lame

example but you get the point.

To live by faith, on the other hand, is to trust God's Word to give clear relevant direction. As we learn

and apply God's Word we become better equipped to live the Christian life. Once the Word of God becomes

the standard from which we live it will be much easier to live in the world today. Years ago I heard this statement,

“We must live Christ dominated lives not feelings dominated lives.” I do not remember where I heard it so I

cannot take credit. However it has become my mantra over the years. When I discover how to live like Christ,

found through the study of His Word, the world becomes a less difficult place to live. Therefore, in order to live

the Christian life I must determine to live like Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior.

I hope this helps you to draw closer to the Lord. If you do not have a personal relationship with Jesus

Christ please read the Gospel of John. Rest assured you can live the Christian life even in today's world.
