Christianity is a religion that started about 2,000 years ago in the present-day country of Israel and was derived from the religion of Judaism. It is a religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and His deciples. These teachings reflect a moral code of ethics implied by disciplining one's self of abstaining from certain behaviors in life and following an alternate behvioral pattern than that of the general population.

The word "Christ" derives from the Greek word "Christos," a translation of the Hebrew word "Masiah," meaning "the annointed one." Most Christians believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and was born of a virgin woman named Mary as a divine act of God. This implies that Jesus was concieved of the Spirit of God as His biological father and the virgin woman, Mary, as His biological mother, which would make Jesus both fully divine and fully human. It is told by Christians that Jesus lived a sin-free life, was crucified and killed for the fasle accusation of blasphemy, and was resurrected from the dead to grant eternal life to those who trust in Him for redemption from their sins. It is also told that Jesus ascended into Heaven a short time after his resurrection where He now sits at the right hand of God His father and intercedes on mankind's behalf daily to God.

Most Christians also believe in what is known as the "Trinity," that there are three parts of the make-up of God, and Jesus Christ is one of those three, aserting that He is in fact not just the Son of God, but also God Himself. The other two parts of what is known as the Trinity are God the Father, aslo called Jehovah in the Old Testament of the Holy Bible, and God the Spirit, also called the Holy Spirit throughout the Holy Bible in both the Old and New Testament. This trinitarian theology is disputed amongst different denominations of Christianity and has been the source of widespread diversity amongst the Christian church as a whole. There are many other disputes amongst Christians worldwide that have caused divisions and controversy leading to what seems to be almost separate religions and teachings of the Holy Bibe.

The Holy Bible is the basis of direction in life for Christians. The early Christian church had a Bible that consisted of 73 books. In 1546 the Catholic Church removed 7 books from the Bible which is now our modern day Holy Bible. There are 39 books in the Old Testament and 27 books in the New Testament. The Old Testament pertains to Judaism and the teachings of God before the life of Jesus Christ, while the New Testament pertains to Christianity and the new covenant between God and man after the life of Jesus.

Christianity is the biggest religion in the world and is prevalent in almost every country. Christians throughout the world continue to bear witness of the life and teachings of Jesus Christ and are commissioned by the teachings written in the New Testament of the Holy Bible to continue to spread the doctrine of salvation through Jesus. There are over 40,000 denominations of Christianity spread out over the world with Catholoicism being one of the oldest and still the most prominent. Christianity has played a major role in shaping Western Civilization and has influenced most cultures throughout the world in some shape or form.
