We live in a world that is populated with evil things and people. From the television to the internet, we are surrounded by things that do not please God. This creates a struggle for anyone that is looking to live as a Christian. Living a Christian life has become much more difficult than it was in times past. Although we as a country say "in God we trust", the actions of many in our country seem to contradict this fact. For Christians, there a few things we can do in order to make our walk with Christ easier. Prayer, reading the Bible, and surrounding ourselves with other Christians can help us live our lives in a Christian manner.
The first thing that can help us live a Christian life is maintaining a healthy prayer life. For Christians, prayer is an essential element that cannot be absent from our lives. 1 John 5: 14 (KJV) states, "And this is the confidence we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to his will, he heareth us." This verse is a reassurance to all Christians that we can pray to God about anything and know that we he will provide what we need. There will be times in our Christian lives that evil will be present. Bills may pile up and family problems may rise on every hand. However, there is no problem that is too big for God to handle. If we just have faith the size of a grain of mustard seed, God is able to do anything that we ask him too. However, we have to be sure that we make time each day to have some one on one time to pray to the Lord.
The next key to living a Christian life is reading the Bible every day. A playbook is to a football player as the Bible is to a Christian. Just as a football player cannot function without knowing the plays, so can a Christian not live a proper life without knowing the teachings of the Bible. Everything written in the Bible came through divine inspiration from God. In other words, it was written by man, but God was behind all of the scripture. Isaiah 40:8 tells us that "grass is going to wither and flowers are going to fade, but the Word of God will last forever". The Bible is the one constant in every Christian's life. We need to make it a daily point to spend some period of time with this Book.
The final key for living as a Christian is being surrounded with other Christians. Many people who try and lose weight say that it is easier to do this when they have someone to work out and run with them. It is the same way with a Christian. There are many things that people in the world do that a Christian simply cannot do. It is easier to refrain from doing these things when your friends and family are also not doing these things. Also, when your friends and family know that you are trying to live as a Christian, they will serve as a support system to help you keep a positive mindset. This can be a key in making your walk with Christ a life long journey.
Living as a Christian is something that many people desire to do. However, for many, it is a lot easier said than done. Developing a discipline to live for Christ involves several different factors. Praying, reading the Bible, and being surrounded by Christians can help anyone desiring to become a Christian to reach this goal. God desires for us to fellowship with him through prayer and the reading of the Bible. Christianity is available to everyone. We must simply choose to make the changes that will allow us to develop a correct relationship with Christ.
